The enigmatic world of Escentric Synaesthesia
With contributions from colour specialists, image-makers and writers, Escentric Molecules compiles an olfactory biography of colour. Can we smell colour? Can we see scent? What is it to be a colour? Can colour help us to create an odour image? For our spring campaign, we explore the synaesthesia between colour and smell and the olfactory-colour cross-modal correspondences in art, science and design. Are you a synaesthete?
Escentric 01
Escentric 01 focuses on Iso E Super at 65% of the fragrance compound in an abbreviated formula designed to maximise the molecule’s efflorescence. It contains lime peel, hedione (green jasmine bud), orris, balsamic notes, and fresh musk.
The shade of drunken lips, wine-dark of an unrisen sun, shadow of an absolute ecstasy
These inaccessible realms hold the very codes to our existence, the electromagnetic foundations upon which our reality rests
Escentric 02
Escentric 02 contains 13.5% Ambroxan in a formula designed to amplify its mineral note with hedione (green jasmine bud), a ‘gin and tonic’ accord, “and a hint of the Austrian lemonade called Almdudler”.
Synaesthesia in all its guises
“The fleeting sensations are like dancing rainbows, for the more we try to hold onto them, the more elusive they become”
- Suzy Chiazzari
Escentric 03
Escentric 03 explores the many faces of Vetiveryl Acetate in a formula that pays tribute to the three roots used in perfumery: vetiver, ginger and orris, which is extracted from the roots of the Florentine iris.
The most evocative memories produce synaesthesia of emotions, consisting of a host of small pleasures intertwined with the tinted stitches of colours, permeated with odour, and agitated with the tender touch…
“Sensory experience, synaesthesia and the super additivity of stimuli are linked to certain brain regions, which can be used for the psychology of fragrance selection”
- Joachim Mensing
Escentric 04
Escentric 04 is formed of Javanol in a formula that highlights the grapefruit accent in the molecule. The result is a uniquely fresh interpretation of a sandalwood fragrance, fizzing with crisp, bitter top notes of pink grapefruit peel with the added zest of lime.
Rediscover the world around you, but let it be of a different nature. Let it run on Escentric Electricity, speeding down the rainbow superhighway
“Scent is experienced in a fuzzy, unquantifiable space, pulling us inwards and isolating us in our own emotions and memories”
- Saskia Wilson-Brown
Escentric 05
Escentric Molecules 05 is an abstraction of summer on a Mediterranean island. This scent explores the idea of a modern Cashmeran fragrance with notes of bergamot, laurel, rosemary, cistus, fig, juniper, hedione, and of course, 15% Cashmeran.
